FBCP - STATEMENT OF FAITH

THE AUTHORITY OF SCRIPTURE.   The Bible is the inspired, authoritative and infallible Word of God and is our sole rule of faith and practice.  It is the standard by which all human conduct and creeds should be tried.

THE TRINITY.     There is only one true and living God who exists in three eternal and coequal persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  God's attributes include holiness, omnipotence, omniscience, omnipresence, love, mercy, and all other perfections.  All humankind owes Him supreme faith and obedience.

HUMANKIND.    Humankind has been created in the image of God but through Adam's fall is now sinful, lost and condemned.  By deliberate choice all participate in sin, which is open rebellion to God's law.  Notwithstanding the fall, all human life through creation has value and dignity.

JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH.     People can be forgiven of sin and justified solely by God’s grace through the redeeming work of Jesus Christ who died for sinners and rose again from the dead.  Only by repentance from sin and faith in Jesus Christ the Lord can acceptance with God be attained.

REGENERATION.    Regeneration, or the "new birth", is the work of the Holy Spirit by which the believer receives a new nature from God.  All who have been born again are commanded to be baptized by immersion as a sign of their union with Christ in his death burial and resurrection. Christian growth or sanctification is the continuation of the new life principle in the new birth.

THE CHURCH.    The church in its widest sense includes followers of Christ of all ages.  The church is manifested visibly in the local body of baptized followers of Christ who covenant together to worship, observe the ordinances and evangelize.

HUMAN DESTINY.   (I Thessalonians 4:13-18)    Jesus Christ will eventually return visibly at which time He will raise the dead and judge all people.  Followers of Christ will enjoy an eternal state of blessedness in heaven while unbelievers will experience eternal separation from God in hell.

EVANGELISM AND SOCIAL CONCERN.    The church has been called to minister to the total person, addressing both physical and spiritual needs through acts of compassion, advocacy for social justice and the sharing of the gospel of personal salvation. This ministry is to have a local, national and global reach.

MARRIAGE.    Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. It is God’s unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His church and to provide for the man and the woman in marriage the framework for intimate companionship, the channel of sexual expression according to biblical standards, and the means for procreation of the human race.
