Thoughts from Pastor Sam
If you’ve spent any time in the church around pastors and teachers you’ve heard that when it says in Eph 2:8 that “by Grace you are saved” it’s not talking about a lady named Grace, a prayer before a meal or a way of behaving in society. In this biblical context it is talking about the unmerited favor of God. The reality is that favor from God toward man is never merited unless it is toward the man Christ Jesus. All other times in scripture where God shows man favor including the unmerited favor (Grace) that we receive from God are not because of our “works of righteousness” but because of his love and mercy. As the psalmist says “I entreated Your favor with my whole heart; Be merciful to me according to Your word.” Psalm 119:58. We can never be thankful enough for the favor that God has shown us through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ who took our sin and punishment so that we receive Grace (unmerited favor), mercy and love from God.
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Eph 2:8-10
We are praising the Lord for Wednesday night children's ministry. Since we started Deep Blue our class size has doubled. Praise the Lord! We are still in need of a volunteer for Wednesday night nursery - preschool. Please consider sharing God's love with our little ones. We also want to thank our faithful staff who are the Lord's light in this world. May the Lord bless you for loving His children. We still have openings on Sundays as well. Please ask the Lord if you are to serve & where.

October! Pastor Appreciation Month: As a reminder, and to help our congregation participate in Pastor Appreciation Month, we will be placing a basket in the Atrium before each service during the month of October so that folks who wish to give cards or love gifts to Pastor Sam can do so. Please make any check out to Sam Walker (not FBCP). The Finance Team will be sure to get these cards and gifts to Pastor Sam each week. Look for this Basket next week, October 2nd.
Operation Christmas Child
Operation Christmas Child starts again this month Oct 16. Collection week is November 13-21. This will be our 6th year as a relay collection site. We will need volunteers to greet people, help receive boxes, pack cartons, pray with those who donate boxes, and share God's love. We can't do this without you. We look forward to collecting boxes again to send to children around the world God's love through His Word and our boxes of hope & encouragement to children who have a tremendous need to hear the Good News of Christ Jesus. Thank you for making last year a success.
May the Lord bless you for your love for the lost.

News from Tirzah
Shalom FBCP Family,
This semester has flown by. We are entering our sixth week and I am amazed at all that has happened here at Moody.
A piece was published in the campus newspaper that I had been asked to write concerning the Temple Mount. I am now a kind of journalist for the paper regularly, a position I have craved the last two years. I have greater news than this however; next semester I will not be studying in Chicago but going with Moody to study abroad in Germany and Switzerland. This year marks the 500th anniversary of the reformation and we will be taking intensive courses while exploring on location the sites which have been the beginning of Protestantism. I will be going to church where Luther posted the 95 Theses, where the mark of his anti-semitism remains outside the door in the bronze Judensau, a figure of grotesque baseness which the German church propagated as Jewish practice. I'll not describe it to you.
I feel like I am coming to a point where, more than feeling the pain of the history of the Church and the Jews, I feel the freedom and the joy that I have as a Jewish Believer to share with you, my friends and fellow Believers, knowing your love for me and my love for you.
It's true, we live in frightening times, but we are not ruled by fear, we are sons and daughters of a living, loving, awesome G-d, who cannot be overpowered by the growing darkness. His is light, we are made as new creations like Him, little lights. Light will always overpower darkness and this light has a never ending source.
Please remember me in your prayers as I prepare for this new adventure and yet continue to focus on the tasks at hand.
