Thoughts from Pastor Sam
Beloved, let us love one another,
and everyone who loves is born of God
and knows God.
1 John 4:7 (NKJV)
We are all still feeling the loss of John de Jong, a much loved member of our church family. John was “much loved” because he loved much. I am not sure I ever met a man who loved others so deeply and so consistently. John’s name in Hebrew is Yohanan which means “God is Gracious” and John certainly exhibited the grace of God in his interactions with pretty much everyone he met. We give Jesus all the glory for the way he worked in and through John to bless us all, yet we know that this took trust, courage and surrender on John’s part. We are called to “love one another” and this is not easy yet it is possible as people like John remind us. It takes courage and sacrifice yet it is well worth the effort. In fact the hardest part is in the surrender of our own will to the will of God. We cannot begin to love until we begin to lay down our lives for each other as Christ has laid down His life for us. Thank you Father for the example of your servant John de Jong, work thNEW!rough us to love each other and the world more that “your will be done on earth as it is in heaven”
Sunday, March 26 following the morning service there will be a meeting for anyone considering working in children's ministry or in VBS this year (June 19-23). We'll provide a
light lunch for you and give you details then!
There is a sign up sheet at the Welcome Center.
Children's Ministry: We have started another year. We will be losing some staff due to changes in their schedules, so if anyone is interested in training up our young to love the Lord God with all their heart, mind, and soul please contact Pam Wrobel, 877-3532 or email@example.com. We believe the Lord has put it on our hearts to be His hands, feet, ears, and mouth to follow Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." There will be a sign-up sheet and volunteer forms at the Welcome Center in the Atrium. Check the bulleting for the date of our meeting which will include the VBS staff meeting as both work with children. May the Lord bless you as you follow where He leads you in Ministry. -
In His Service,
VBS: This year we are doing Heroes of the Bible. We will be needing staff this year so please pray and ask the Lord if you are to be involved in this Ministry. We will be missing some staff that have been serving this ministry for years now, therefore, we do need your assistance. Check the bulletin for dates and times of our Meetings. VBS will be held once again the week after Father's Day, June 19-23. Please mark your calendars. We will be needing help setting up and cleaning up after VBS, so if you can't help during the week, perhaps you can help in one of these areas. See you soon.
Glen and Rita Chapman - The Chapmans will be coming to the U.S. for an extended visit this year.
Shawn, Dee, and Pari Collins - The Collins have put their home in Albuquerque on the market and are dealing with keeping it fit for potential buyers to view. The new ministry offices for the Deaf Bible Society are in Arlington, Texas. They will be on the move to the new location as soon as their home sells (hint - prayer opportunity here!). In the midst of moving, they are continuing their involvement with deaf communities around the world. They also have new international partners to mesh with, which means there is plenty to keep them busy!
Ed and Miriam Noyes - Ed has been able to travel to the U.S. to be with his mother in Medford, Oregon for her 90th birthday celebration! Ed's mother, Dorothy, also served as an overseas missionary, teaching English to young women in Japan from the late 1970s through the early 1990s. Ed's visit to the U.S. is only for seven days! Miriam (via facebook) notes that the continuing uncertainty of the political situation in Kinshasa keeps them on the look-out for potential trouble.
Russell and Sharla Wiesner and family - Praise for the new students that are being accepted into Cornerstone Learning Center. Two Muslim widows, one from Pakistan and one from Sudan, have enrolled children at Cornerstone. In both cases the mothers did not have enough money to pay tuition and had been unable to enroll their children in other schools. Cornerstone was able to offer tuition assistance for twins from Pakistan and three children from Sudan. "Pray for our financial situation as God brings students who need education, but can't afford it. We scholarship these students as a ministry outreach, but the financial burden grows as we add students we subsidize. "
Around the World - Six Mexican Baptist churches in Tijuana have been able to help shelter and feed a few hundred of the thousands of refugees living in the streets of Tijuana, hoping to get into the U.S. An additional 60 churches have joined in a network of support. Many of the refugees are Haitians, hoping to join relatives in the U.S.

Friend Day - March 19
If you didn’t get an chance to invite a friend last November on our first very successful Friend Day, we want to give you the opportunity to invite friends and family for Friend Day, March 19. Be thinking about who you would like to invite to this special service and luncheon where we will have a chance to get acquainted with one another.
We will have invitations available at the Welcome Center on Sunday for you to give out. Please sign for the number of invitations you take even though you might not use them all, just to give us an idea of how many people we might expect to prepare for. Since this is an invitation only event knowing how many the invitations were given out will help us plan.
