Thoughts from Pastor Sam

Why is it when we are with other believers (at church) or singing worship songs  and fellowshipping with each other that we are so brave and resolute regarding our trust and obedience to the Lord.  But in the middle of the night when we are all alone and can’t sleep our worries, loneliness, besetting sins and fear seem overwhelming.  This is not a new problem; King David has this to say:

147 I rise before the dawning of the morning, And cry for help; I hope in Your word. 148 My eyes are awake through the night watches, That I may meditate on Your word. Psalms 119:147-148 (NKJV)

Many times we are quick to blame the devil for our sleeplessness but maybe God has something to say that we couldn’t hear in the noise and busyness of the day.  Next time let’s try meditating on God’s word.  It is certainly better than fretting over things that we can’t change, feeling like a victim, giving in to sinful thoughts or being paralyzed by our fear.

6 When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches. 7 Because You have been my help, Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice. 8 My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me. Psalms 63:6-8 (NKJV)

 Missions Update

Glen and Rita Chapman - The Chapmans continue their very busy ministry at the Pastoral Training School in Kikongo, with many responsibilities!

Shawn, Dee, and Pari Collins - The Collins' recently completed a week-long intensive meeting of the Eurasia team for their project, WordSign. They request prayer for team-members active in Denmark, Spain, the Middle-east, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Austria, Romania, and Hungary. The Collins' also covet our prayers for themselves - daughter Pari has developed a congenital disease that requires that she wear a chest brace for several months. Shawn is starting the second phase of WordSign and will be in Ireland working with team-members there. Dee is in the final semester of her interpreter training and education.

Ed and Miriam Noyes - Miriam has written a very interesting account of the life of a woman, Mama Luti Makunu, whose life was transformed through becoming literate! See http://www.internationalministries.org/read/57066-update-on-mama-luti-makunu Miriam continues to work on translating the lay pastors' training materials into Lingala - see http://www.internationalministries.org/read/57068-translating-lay-pastor-training-course-with-pastor-makwala and http://noyescongo.blogspot.com The training materials will be especially helpful for the Pygmy church leaders who have received very little training!

Russell and Sharla Wiesner and family - Russ returned to California from his three week trip to Kuala Lumpur for the opening of the Upward Training Center.

Jews for Jesus - The recent attacks in Paris have opened up new ministry opportunities. Pray for new initiatives around the world in 2015.

 Children's Ministry

Thank you all for praying for Children's Ministry. We have started a new year and our staff are wonderful.

I would like to ask you to pray about joining our team. We still have 4 positions which need to be filled. In the nursery the needs are:

  • Wednesday night, Teacher or Aide

  • Sunday Church the 5th Sunday (which occurs 4 times this year)

  • In Children's Church we still need an aide to assist the K-5th grade.

Sign-up sheet is in the Atrium.

Our children are a blessing to us. May we bless them also.

Pamela Wrobel, Children's Ministry Director

  Women's Ministry

Mugs & Muffins on Valentine’s Day!  Meeting on Feb 14 at Kathy’s Steenson’s house, 5575 Pentz Road, Paradise at 9:30 AM.  Come and bring a Valentine treat to share if you would care to and spend bonding time with your fellow sisters in Christ.

Monthly Potlucks: We continue to have well-attended potlucks on the first Sunday of every month in the Family Life Center.  For the time being they are "cold" lunches in that we are not keeping any hot dishes, so please bring a cold dish to share - desserts too.

WM Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month at 5:30 PM in the Prayer Room off the Sanctuary.  Any woman interested in helping with women's ministry is welcome to attend.

Food Pantry Update:  Thank you all for bringing shelf food items for the pantry.  This enables us to give people a variety of foods.  The pantry can use any shelf items.  Just make sure they are in-date and not expired.    Also, we need both paper and plastic bags right now.  We will use all you bring!  Don’t forget the Food Pantry box in the Atrium where you may place your donations to the pantry.
