Thoughts from Pastor Sam

Seeking the Face of God

Psalm 27:8 (NKJV)

8  When You said, "Seek My face," My heart said to You, "Your face, LORD, I will seek."

What does it mean to seek God’s face?  It is clear from scripture that if we were to physically see God’s face in all of His glory we would be consumed and yet we are told by the Lord to seek His face.  So what does this mean?  When you look at someone in the face it is usually to get their attention or give them your attention.  I am reminded as a parent of trying to get my children’s attention when correcting or instructing them.  A very common phrase was “let me see your face” or “look at me”.  The purpose of this is to verify that they are listening.  I believe this is part of what the Lord is trying to tell us when He says “seek My face”.  He is saying “look at Me”.  When we look at Him not only does it help us pay attention but we also can see His love for us which motivates us to Obey.  There is an intimate aspect to seeking His face that shows us His nature and His glory.  Remember Moses on the mountain asking to see God’s face(His glory).  Moses hungered for a closer relationship with the Lord yet he asked for something that was at that time not possible without him being consumed.  Today we as believers have the privilege of seeking God’s face and His glory without fear because of the righteousness of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

14  Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.

15  For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
16  Let us, therefore, come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 4:14-16 (NKJV)

Children's Ministry - AWANA

Awana is off to a great start! We have many helpers but still need people to be LISTENERS! What would a Listener do, you ask?  You can come from 6:30 - 7:00 PM on a Wednesday night and sit with clubbers individually holding the clubber’s handbook while they try/practice/recite their bible memory verse to you for that week.  At this point, you are listening/encouraging and giving helpful tips on memorization, and most of all loving on these clubbers and showing God's love to them.
If you are interested in becoming a club listener, please contact Candice Deppe (Awana Ministry Director) at 530-872-5380.  We will need to hold a special mini meeting soon with our listeners, so everyone will be on the same page and understands the club layout. Thank You!

Mission News for September 2018

Glen and Rita Chapman - Rita reports on the joy of returning to teaching and running the library at the Baptist University of the Congo in Kikongo! Rita's grandparents founded the school at Kikongo 70 years ago, and now, three years after the school was upgraded to the University level, the first graduating class of 48 students has celebrated.
"The government accreditation for UNIBAC (Baptist University of Congo) was signed just a week before." Additionally, there was a delegation "from Bandundu city, of the province".

Todd and Susan Smith and Family - At the latest report the Smiths were at 50% financial support. They must have 100% before they depart for Papua New Guinea! Pray for their preparation and the development of their support team. They plan to sell their home here in California so they may buy a home in Ukarumpa, giving them a more stable situation there.

Upward International Schools - A family from Yemen has been reunited in Malaysia. The father has been in Malaysia for awhile and has found Christ. The family was only recently able to leave Yemen. Now he hopes to introduce his Muslim family to the Lord!
