Thoughts from Pastor Sam

Living Sacrifice not “Burnt Out” Offering

In Romans 12:1 Paul urges the believers in Rome to “Present your bodies as living sacrifices.”    Sometimes instead of a “living sacrifices” we end up more like “burnt out” offerings because instead of offering ourselves to the Lord for Him to do with as He pleases we instead offer our money, time, talents or skills and we are offended when they are not appreciated.  If we bring any other offering to the Lord without first offering ourselves as He directed us, not only do we open ourselves up to failed expectations but our offering will not be acceptable to the Lord.  As Christians (followers of Christ) we have been redeemed by His blood and made right with God the Father by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.  We have His Spirit living in us and enjoy the benefits of His mercy and Love.  It is only reasonable that we should present ourselves to Christ as a “living sacrifice.”  When we do this we are acknowledging His control over our lives and surrendering to His will.  This is an acceptable offering to the Lord because it is to His glory and He can then work out His will through us.  The Holy Spirit then gives us power to do the good works that He has prepared for us to do (Eph 2:10).

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18‭-‬20 NIV

VBS starts in 2 weeks. Praise the Lord for the opportunity to reach the children with the Gospel of Jesus Christ for Salvation & Discipleship.

I am laying out our needs. First, we need you. We are in a battle for lives! Our VBS follows the Discover America Tour and precedes summer. We need you. First & foremost we need prayer partners.

Second, We need volunteers for registration, guides to assist our campers, youth & adults to help with assembly opening & closing, an adult to head up the mission & memory verse portion, setup team, take down team, and those who would like to help create our decorations.

MISSIONS REPORT

Glen and Rita Chapman - Glen is back in Kikongo and their Internet access has been restored by a visiting MAF pilot, who also brought a visiting Missionary.

Shawn, Dee, and Pari Collins - In a May 25 post on Facebook, Deaf Bible Society highlights Shawn Collins:
'This week on "Meet the Team," we would like to introduce you to our Chameleon Project Manager, Shawn Collins.

"In Isaiah 43 the Lord talks about making a pathway through the wilderness and bringing rivers to the dry wasteland. I compare this to how He is enabling Deaf Bible Society and its partners to bring the Good News of His word to the languages of sign around the world. Historically God has always been creating and innovating to build His kingdom. Seeing how He is using technology today to break through barriers and share scripture in a visual language is inspiring. He didn't bring Deaf Bible Society together to start a project. He did it to finish a project."'
Dee shared an interesting article about misconceptions that hearing people may have about sign language:

Ed and Miriam Noyes - Miriam has a leading roll in organizing Summer Bible Camps in the Vanga area, about 300 miles east of Kinshasa. This has involved hundreds of children from several churches. Miriam comments (on Facebook) that there were seven camps last year and they hope to have six this year. For more details see:

Upward International Schools - For online information see: http://upwardinternationalschools.net

Upward International carries on an international ministry of establishing schools, including existing work in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, plus work developing in Kenya. There is a need for more teachers both in Malaysia and in Kenya.

Around the WorldSpirit of Martyrdom encourages us to pray for Muslims during Ramadan, which runs May 15 through June 14 this year. During Ramadan Muslims fast during daylight hours, pray and seek a connection to or message from Allah, and read the Qur'an. There is a great deal about Jesus (Isa) in the Qur'an, and God often reveals himself to Muslims in dreams. Pray that God will reveal Himself to Muslims during Ramadan!
