Thoughts from Pastor Sam

                                              The Hairless Squirrel

Recently I got to go to New York City for a                                          conference.  I arrived the day before and                                            decided to sightsee a little since this was my first                                  time to the actual city of New York.  I was                                            strolling through central park with another million people on a beautiful sunny day in late April when I spied a disturbing site. I saw what at first looked like a rat running across the grass in broad daylight.  I was shocked and at first repulsed yet as I continued to watch I realized that what I was looking at was not a rat at all but a hairless squirrel.  Yes, you heard me right a hairless squirrel!  I was not the only person to notice it by far and the majority consensus was that it was a rat and most people were repulsed by it.  It was in fact not a rat but a squirrel.  After I left the park I continued to contemplate this experience and I realized that we make a lot of decisions based on perception rather than fact, especially when the facts don’t fit our accepted view of the world.  This is especially true with God’s perspective versus the human one.  Remember what God told the prophet, Samuel, when he went to anoint the king of Israel:
6  So it was, when they came, that he looked at Eliab and said, "SurelytheLORD'S anointed is before Him."
7  But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."   1 Samuel 16:6-7 (NKJV)

Our perception is not always reality especially when it comes to the things of God.  Let’s practice listening and obeying the Holy Spirit and ask God to give us eyes to see as he sees instead of being blinded by our own perception.

Vacation Bible School - June 18-22

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18‭-‬20 NIV

Many of us have a heart to serve the Lord God but lack opportunities. Here is an opportunity I present before you. VBS starts next month. We will have a 1 week window to reach our chilren on the ridge with the Gospel of Jesus Christ for Salvation & Discipleship.

I am laying out our needs. First we need you. We are in a battle for lives! Our VBS follows the discover America tour and preceeds summer. We need you. First & foremost we need prayer partners.

2nd We need volunteers for registration, guides to assist our campers, youth & adults to help with assembly opening & closing, an adult to headup the mission & memory verse portion, science, and security, publicity, set preppers, setup team, take down team, and those who would like to help create our decorations.

3rd we need supplies which I will make a list to be handed out.

4th We will once again have food pantry  and missionary competitions. We have chosen the Smith family for this offering to help send them off to Papua New Guinea.

Without you this opportunity for a child(ren) may be lost. I know every team member grows in their faith as they serve the Lord as this is His ministry and we are His vessels.

This cannot happen without you. Please contact me through the office at 877-3532.

May the Lord bless you as you serve Him.

Missions Report

Glen and Rita Chapman - Glen has recently returned to Kikongo where he hit the ground running! He was able to phone Rita, who is still in the States, after arriving there! All is in order there, except that the Internet hardware needs some help. A technician will come on

out on a MAF aircraft. Glen will immediately start teaching his Hebrew class. The University Board meeting went well, and their house is in good shape. Rita will remain in the States until their next grandchild is born!

Shawn, Dee, and Pari Collins - Pray for their work with the Deaf Bible Society and the translation of the Bible into many different sign languages!

Ed and Miriam Noyes - In Lusekele for the agricultural development work there, including establishing a source of certified seed in the country.

Russell and Sharla Wiesner and family - From their latest newsletter: "Russell is serving as an International Education Developer and Church Planter for SE Asia. Great commission workers are asking for Learning Centers to support church planting efforts in Malaysia and other SE Asia countries."  and "Through a generous donation, we were able to provide Bibles for all of our elementary students. These ESV Bibles were purchased through the Bible Society of Malaysia and are made available to each student. Our next goal is to provide Bibles for our middle school and high schools students as well."

AWANA

AWANA will have their last meeting for the school year this week. We have had about 50 children participating in the Awana program!  The clubs will begin again in September with plans next year to have a “Cubbies” group for younger children.

Adults are needed to help children with memorizing verses as well as assisting in other ways.  So far 50 is all the children we can have until we have more volunteers.  If you are considering helping let us know in the church office.

 Jesus Focus Groups

Jesus Focus Groups

FBCP is starting several new home-based fellowships called Jesus Focus Groups.

They will be structured around the concept of reaping in Gal 6:6-9.

  1. R-Radiating a heart of worship toward Christ

  2. E-Experience spiritual awakening and growth

  3. A-Applying the Word of God together

  4. P-Praying Together

  5. I-Inclusive fellowship

  6. N-Nourishing godly fruit and spiritual gifts

  7. G-Going and sowing the gospel

Fellowship is a necessary part of a Christian’s life if we are going to mature and grow in our faith.  Even if we have been a believer for quite a while we still need fellowship with other believers to have a healthy and vibrant walk with Jesus.

Our first Jesus Focus Group will start Thursday, May 17th at 6:00 PM.  It will be led by Jerry and Elta Jaeger and hosted by Eileen Lesher.

We will be starting a second one very soon, date TBD, so be watching.

If you have any questions please contact Pastor Sam - 877-3532.
