Thoughts From Pastor Sam

A Peculiar People

For the LORD hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure.

Psalm 135:4 (KJV)

In the Torah Exodus 19:5 God Calls Israel His own Peculiar People.  In Romans chapter 11 Paul says that we as Christians are grafted into Israel and as it states in 1 Peter 2:9 we are also God’s “peculiar people”.  What does it mean to be God’s “peculiar people”?  Does it mean we are strange or weird, unique?  Well, some of us are, however, the word “peculiar” in Hebrew is Segulah and it means “special treasure”.  So God is calling all of us who have trusted in Jesus as our savior His “special treasures”.  Isn’t it great to know that God sees us in this way?  The enemy of our soul (the devil) will try to tell us that God doesn’t care and that we have no value, yet God clearly calls us His Treasure.  So next time the devil or someone used by the devil calls you worthless or demeans you remind yourself and them that you are a treasure to God and that is more important than what anyone else thinks.

1 Peter 2:8-9 (KJV)

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:

1 Peter 2:9

Missions

Glen and Rita Chapman - Glen is back in Kigongo, "where he belongs!" Because of the demands of the work there, Glen does not plan to travel much to the surrounding villages, where he has preached and showed videos in the past, nor does he plan to do any flying with his powered parachute! Rita has also returned to the Congo where she will be very busy with duties at the University, including teaching an intensive English class.

Shawn, Dee, and Pari Collins - Why do sign language Bibles matter? Deaf Bible Society has teamed up with Christian poet, David Bowden, sharing why Sign Language Bibles matter. Take a look at this video: https://www.deafbiblesociety.com/bible.

Ed and Miriam Noyes - No updates recently. Please remember them in the work at Lusekele and with literacy projects.

Todd and Susan Smith and Family - The Smiths' are preparing to return to Ukarumpa in Papua New Guinea soon, with progress in all areas of their preparation. They are still short of the support they need to depart!
Susan will serve as the Medical Clinic Manager, providing services to keep the translators healthy and at work on the Bible translations! The clinic also serves other Ukarumpa staff and the local population.
If you are led to partner with the Smiths:

Partnering in THREE easy steps:
1.       Pray and ask God how he is calling you to partner with them
2.       Let them know.  Please let them know immediately by phone at 530-592-8257 or by email at
susan_smith@wycliffe.org so they can inform their supervisor that the financial gap is being closed.
3.       Let Wycliffe know at

Awana Program

Awana begins this year on September 12. We are always looking for more volunteers, however, we are now in a good place to where we do not have to limit registration based on our volunteer ratio. We have enough help signed up so far to offer 100 spots for clubbers. Praise God!

We're excited to begin this new Awana year!

Blessings,

Candice Deppe, Director

Children's Ministries

Vacation Bible School: We had a very successful VBS this year led by Pam Wrobel. Our total enrollment of students was 57 plus volunteer staff of 38! What a wonderful ratio. There were 49 decisions to accept Christ. Our theme was "Time Lab" and was both fun and learning experience for our 1st - 6th-grade students.  Pam Wrobel

Next Year the director will be Rebecca Milco.
